Matthias Klien was born 1977 and graduated in the department Digital Arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. His main focus is medialisation, the socioeconomic implications of any technology and its paradigms, and particularly the format simulation, or computergames respectively. He works in Vienna as an artist, but also as programmer, graphic designer, game-designer or interaction designer; like in the project Vireal Rebel Mobilecycle Club, which will be presented at the CODED CULTURES festival.

VRMC - Beta - Vireal Rebel Mobilecycle Club / Urania / 22.09, 15:00
VRMC is a mobile artistic application (mobile app) which focuses on the blending of real and virtual space. Using digital media, data is deposited in local (real) space, creating new virtual contexts in the urban environment. VRMC playfully communicates new forms of applications for urban communication and enables new viewpoints on virtual and real space. In parallel, artistic methods are used to demonstrate the virtual information overflow.
In the first phase of the project in the context of the CODED CULTURES Festival, playful tools and abstract forms of interaction will be presented and communicated through a workshop for approximately 10 people. The cell phone becomes a “joystick”, a “sensor” and a “tool” to deposit “packets” at a specific (virtual / real) location in urban space, to tell collaborative stories, or to destroy unwanted messages. Throughout the “gang wars” for virtual territory, the cell phone becomes a virtual “graffiti spray can” or a virtual hand grenade if you want. The fun for experimentation and atypical use of media and technology with a critical layer of reflection in regards to existing infrastructures and media are the main aim of the project.
Thank you for your participation!
Workshop location:
Urania Eingang Turmstiege, Uraniastrasse 1, 1010 Wien
